Help: OpenID

OpenID is a relatively new and increasingly popular FREE service that provides online users a single account (username and password) that allows them to sign on to multiple websites (often referred to as Single Sign-On).

With this service, online users can now have ONE online identity controlled through their OpenID account.

As an example, one account could potentially be used on multiple Social Networks. This allows the user to build and maintain an online reputation on these disparate networks that otherwise know nothing of each other.

Despite the consolidation of these multiple accounts into one, OpenID still provides the ability to have multiple profiles associated with the one account. That means a user could call herself "bluemoon" on Network A and "redlunar" on Network B, all because OpenID allows her to potentially create a different profile for each website that she visits.

More detailed and technical information on OpenID is available on Wikipedia.
